Mahogany/Lutz OM finished today
I know one bloke who is going to get a nice surprise for Christmas.
We finished this one today. A Mahogany/Lutz OM with Snakewood bindings. Scalloped bracing. Ubeaut Hard Shellac finish.
It was built to be used as a DADGAD guitar and string gauges at present are 56-13.
This one has taken a while as the customer wasn't keen on the colour of the Mahogany under finish so we had to strip it back and darken it up.
It's plenty loud so it'll be fine for the Irish sessions that it will be used in.
Thanks to Dave White and Colin Symonds for their advice whilst planning this one.
Here's the pics.
Thanks for looking
Bob

Thanks everyone.
Sebastiaan - I think you are seeing the spruce braces on the back through the sound port. The mahogany has been stained so the interior of the guitar is actually a pinky colour. ( to match the flowers in the pic Hesh )
The Ubeaut is applied neat from the bottle - no thinning.
it's the equivalent of a 4 lb cut. So it just gets 2 coats around 15 minutes apart. Then leave it for a month to crosslink.
Allen the peghead overlays are around .070". We tried some thinner ones as well and didn't like the result either.
Cheers

The guitar was picked up this afternoon. I gave Ade a link to both forums so he could have a squiz.
I just got an email from him so we've got a very happy customer and a couple of very happy guitar builders.
I think I'll crack a beer to celebrate.

Ta for the link m8, the snakewood/mahogany combination
has certainly impressed your colleagues on the luthiers forum.
What can't be detected in the pics, is the feather weight of it. Absolutely magic.
Cheers and thanks again from one very satisfied customer.
This is the most unique instrument I've ever owned in my life and the sound......the Sound......THE SOUND!! is incredible.
