Blue Flame Maple Tenor Uke
Blue Flame Maple Tenor Uke
I've been wanting to do something like this for quite some time and finally got around to it.
Maple body with Australian Blackwood bindings and the rest is ebony. Gotoh UPT tuners, strung up with a low G.

Allen, that looks very cool. The contrast to the blackwood bindings and soundhole binding is lovely. Good decision not to have any rosette in this colour scheme. How did you apply the dye - hand application or spray? It looks flawless, and way better than anything that I have ever been able to achieve by hand application.
Re: Blue Flame Maple Tenor Uke
Done by hand. I stained the body black before adding the bindings. Then when leveling them I sanded it all back so just the black was left in end grain. Masking off the bindings and applying blue mixed with alcohol carefully so I got very little bleed out under the tape.

Absolutely stunning, Allen!
I'm always in awe of your eye for colour and design and, of course, your ability to execute at this ridiculously high level! Ever since first seeing your posts of the instruments you make, you've been the standard to which I aspire - but still can't achieve.
Frank.

Looks great Allen, that blue is awesome. Is the blue from stewmac or elsewhere?

Hi Allen,
Another stunning uke!
Just out of interest, have you ever tried dye-ing fiddleback Blackwood? Any colour? I'm thinking a red-dyed front, back and side fiddleback Blackwood with Maple binding uke might look a bit nice!
Thanks,
GregL.

This is the first time I've ever used dye on an instrument. I have added color to the finish before but the results didn't pop and look as clean as this.
