'Dying craft"?? Yeah right.
The radial soundboard..interesting concept but I'd like to see some tap and Chladni testing on those tops.

Good on the bloke for having a go and trying something different. I would however like to see how he measured the vibrations getting out onto the soundboard very quickly which help to clarify the sound

Looks like he is basically making dobros or banjos with a wooden soundboard instead of a metal cone/skin head.
I'm not to impressed with his dismissal of the rest of the luthiery world, though perhaps that is a product of editing down to a short clip

I saw that and it is interesting, although I don't agree about the dying craft thing. I listened carefully to his mandolin, and I am not concerned about any potential competition. His concepts might work, I dunno, but he hasn't got it right yet.

Looking at the last fifty or so years I would describe it as a burgeoning craft, like nowadays you can buy a kit.peter.coombe wrote: ↑Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:59 amI saw that and it is interesting, although I don't agree about the dying craft thing. .
Life is good when you are amongst the wood.

Yes exactly. There is also a heck of a lot more information readily available nowadays. The old ways when I first started was to keep what you learned to yourself, not let any "secrets" out lest the opposition gets wind of it. That has changed hugely.Looking at the last fifty or so years I would describe it as a burgeoning craft, like nowadays you can buy a kit.
