00 Size Florentine Cutaway Guitar - 14 Fret Neck
This 00 size acoustic guitar has been made as a gift to my eldest son in celebration of his 40th birthday.
The back and sides are Gidgee, supplied by Jeremy Fullerton. (I’m told the tree came from near Bourke in northwest NSW.) The top is Bearclaw Sitka Spruce supplied by Tim Spittle. The fretboard, bindings and bridge are Ebony and the neck is made from Fijian Mahogany. The tuners are Grover Mid Sized Rotomatics©. I chose to make a cutaway to further challenge my building skills…and for the pleasure.
Thanks to Bob Connor for his wise counsel throughout production.

That should make for a happy birthday Kim, fancy bit of wood too with bonus bearflaw top.

What a beautiful guitar Kim, I love the black accents, how you've carried the rosette right up to the edge of the soundhole & matched sapwood to your joints. All subtle touches that make one fine looking instrument. Very jealous of your son.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

The bracing for the top Graham is the standard X-bracing, with the exception that the lower bout has a fine lattice bracing which I have borrowed from Bob Connor's design.

Lovely work Kim .
Indeed that tree did come from west of Bourke . It was salvaged from trees pushed for a new fence line .
Gidgee really is a special timber , that log showed no real inkling of figure and yet its polished out to a beautiful sparkly shimmer .
Good luck with the next one . Now that really was figured Gidgee !
