Yes well i started this build with the cedar top as an experiment really, because i have some really nice and rare King Billy pine in my stash and i believe the two timbers are similar in characteristics so i thought i'd build an instrument with the cedar first and learn a bit from that. Anyways, i wanted this to be a truly acoustic build which it is but in most cases the punters do want to plug in, so i sourced some soundboard pups, K and K and Schaller oyster, and i think i already know the answer to my next question, which one do i use? i originally ordered the Schaller but thought i'd have a look at the K and K, the cedar top is very light and i'm thinking it doesn't need to be weighed down by any extra apparatus too much, there is a considerable difference in weight between the two products, which one is the best for this instrument?

I think you'll find K and K's are favoured by many on this forum...

Really nice work so far Rod.

I have no experience with the Schaller pickups you show but have been quite happy with K&K's Pure and Western minis (3 x small buds) that I've fitted to quite a few acoustics. I've found them to be plenty powerful enough for small amp small venue solo situations and great for jam sessions with a few mates but they won't cut through in a band situation. But if that is what's required then you can always wire in a mini stereo plug into a stereo jack for quick fit of a quality soundhole pickup such as an L R Baggs M1a when required. Doing that would providing dual source to a preamp with awesome sound able to cut through most situations, especially once the toggle on the Baggs is switched over to active.

Check youtube for some demos, the M1a is a pretty old model now so there's probably soundhole products that are even better now being offered by the various competitors in that market.

Cheers

Just a bit of an update, this build seems to be taking forever but i'm glad to announce that it's due to get some polish next week, but in the meantime i've been fitting the bridge, fitting the nut to the slot and just checking that all the final fitting will go as per plan after the instrument is polished.
Cheers,,

Thanks Markus and Steve, actually i had someone fly down from Sydney to have a look at it and a few other instruments this morning, didn't buy it but bought another axe i had in stock and put an order in for another acoustic build with a different timber selection, for me i feel the like the drought has broken, i suppose as the saying goes" all things come to he who waits"
On the good side though, i still get to show this one at Port Fairy and possibly the Melbourne guitar makers festival. :D :D :D
