I got a few sets of plans for small-bodied guitars recently, as I have some small Huon Pine tops that I'dlike to be able to use on something.
One is a set of plans by Scott Antes for a Regal Tenor guitar. It looks suspiciously like a baritone Uke that Allen showed me when I saw him round Easter time. His was tuned DGBE with guitar strings, and seemed--given my limited ability to recall such things--around the same size as this one.
Are the two comparable, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Tenor Guitar = Baritone Uke???????
Tenor Guitar = Baritone Uke???????
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

I would say they are comparable - both are plucked instruments!nnickusa wrote:Are the two comparable, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Besides that, the history of the tenor guitar seems not to have to do anything with the ukulele. Also, opposed to the ukulele the tenor guitar has steel strings.
This is an interesting website about the tenor guitar: www.tenorguitar.com

Re: Tenor Guitar = Baritone Uke???????
Don't have that plan Nick, but from memory a Tenor guitar and Baritone uke are a similar size. My Baritone is 14" long in the body, and 11.5" across the lower bout. I use a 20" scale length, but you will see them range from 23" down to 19".
Most of my Baritones I build and tune to GCEA, but it's more common to have the in DGBE. You can get "soft steel" strings for Baritones as well. They apparently don't have any where near the tension you get from regular steel strings, but I haven't tried any yet.

Hi Allen,
Body is very similar then. These plans call for 11.5 lower bout and 15 5/8 length with a scale of 20.88 inches.
Didn't the one you built for Renee have steel strings on it, tuned DGBE? Or is my memory that bad already?

Those were nylon with wound 3rd and 4th on Renee's. D'Addario Titaniums for Baritone.
Re: Tenor Guitar = Baritone Uke???????
Would any one have a plan or know where to get info for an Arch Top Tenor Guitar.
Thanks Colin.
