Classical made from pure local timbers

Post by TedvV » Sun Dec 05, 2010 2:03 pm

local timbered classical guitar.

I have build this locally sourced timber classical with the following timbers.

Back and sides are silver wattle (Plenty around)
Neck, fingerboard and bridge are blackwood (Dandenongs)
Soundboard is bunya pine.Although normally not grown in Victoria(Ithink), this piece comes from a tree that used to be in front of the Camberwell Civic Centre.
The treefellow that took the tree down, still has got plenty of it, however under a stack of other timber and needs time and an opportunity to get to it.

This guitar sounds good to my limited knowledge.

Nice theme Ted, I wouldn't mind doing the same up here but finding something for a top would be like stepping in rocking horse dung. Is there any chance you could get some closer shots of the silver wattle and the bunya please.

Great looking Guitar , I love the concept of using local timbers , and try to every chance I get , I'm doing a 100% Australian Timber, 000 Concert for a charity auction, and wanted to make it unique, so the back and side are from a Blackwood tree salvaged from the Dorrigo Plataue, Neck is a lamination of Victorian ash and Tassie Blackwood , Top and top Braces are King Billy, back Braces are King Billy, Headstock veneer is a eucalyptus Burl from Tim Spitall, Kerfing is Celery top Pine , bridge is Gidgee , fretboard is Mulga and the Rosette is Tiger myrtle. will post some pics when it's done .
