Plastic binding scratches

I'm building a OOO size rosewood guitar with white plastic binding and end trim, at the moment I am final sanding with 240 grit and have got scratches in the plastic, particularly noticable across the end trim. Does anybody have some advice on getting the plastic to look scratch-free

Scrape it back - look at frets.com for Frank Ford's cheap glass scrapers...

If youre scraping close to the edge of the top then try and avoid working the scraper across the grain with associated risk of tear out. I scrape with the scraper at an angle to the grain working out towards the binding.

Hi Paul ,

Good to see you've poked your head in.(we're practably neighbours.)
I've been lurking around for ages.
When I've scraped the bindings from either top & back,I did like kiwigeo, Plus I put some tape over the edge & at the end of the scraper so that one end of the cutting edge is raised & it only makes contact with the binding. I think you want very little hook on the edge. Safety razors & exacto blades work pretty well too.

With the safety razors , you can apply tape over each end & bend the blade slighty so that only the centre does the scraping. -how much bend determines how wide the scraping area.
Sharp edges & a light touch is the go
