Hi, the heat stick neck removal tool I mentioned in my last post had issues. It would not heat the timber as shown in the video of the heat stick demo. I could not get it hot enough to even char the wood as shown in that video. I complained to Stewmac and they sent me another unit.
This however turned out just as good, or should I say bad. They said it would work better if I used the heat control station. My thinking was that without the heat control in the loop, the iron would be running flat out and easily reach the temperature claimed in the advertising and the control would be used to cut back that power. Maybe I was wrong. I wired the iron they sent me into a control unit and it did not run any hotter.
I complained again and they offered me a refund, which I accepted. Now I have two neck heating tools for the cost of the freight on one of the units. As a bonus, I found a problem with the heat stick and modified it, and now it works much better. Stewmac has always replaced faulty items over the years with no fuss.
