Pappy Green a fellow forum member just sent me this link to a youtube vid.

youtu.be/

If you like Jimi Hendrix and Steve Ray Vaughan like I do you will love this take on a classic.

Cheers

Hey Al,

Have edited to have the vid display direct from your post. If you wish to do this yourself in future its just a matter of deleting the "& show related" etc from the end of the youtube URL before you highlight it and select the "youtube" button from the edit pane.

Thanks for posting, its a very cool vid. 8)

Cheers

It's a Koto and it hails from Japan. My wife had one while she was living in Japan...we would have brought it back to Oz with us but the thing was just too long (about a metre) to take with us.

Thanks for posting that Alan, I quite enjoyed that & I reckon Stevie Ray would have gotten a hell of a buzz hearing his version played on such an ancient instrument.
Martin, do you have to wear the hat as well in order to play a Koto?
"Jesus Loves You."
Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

No the hat is optional......but it does kinda suit the chick in the video. Incidentally the chick is plucking the koto with her bare fingers.....its normal to use finger picks on thumb and first two fingers. Note how she "bends" the strings by pushing on them behind the bridge. The instrument is tuned by sliding the bridges under each string.

I am the worlds biggest SRV fan, and that was just brilliant!!

Its amazing how much like the original version it sounds, i wish i could do that good a rendition, i am lucky to play the opening few bars correctly.

I would love to hear it through an ibanez tube screamer!!!

Thanks Pappy and Alan, I grinned and chuckled through that and think I've just become a great fan of hers.
