Two Short Stories...

How long is your warranty period…
I had a phone call the other day from a guy for whom I had done work over the years and his call started like this “…Hi Taff, I’m just wondering what your warranty policy is?”. I know I had not done any work for him in some years, so I asked him to tell me more.
He reminded me that I had built him a mandolin and built a case at the same time to accommodate the mandolin and his violin, I said he was correct and that was fifty years ago. He agreed and he said that the mandolin was great but the handle on the case had broken. After a bit of laughter on both ends of the phone, I told him I did not make the handle. He said he would drop it in for repair. Mind you he lives 2000klm away.

Some guitars take a while to come alive…
I have recently finished a guitar, a 000 size, but after completion, I was not fully happy with it. It was the first guitar I had built a guitar with laminated sides and a none pore filled shellac-finish. Also, it lacked the sparkle I had hoped for. It had a great bass response for that size guitar and everyone who heard it commented on the great volume. I did some fine-tuning and achieved decent sparkle in the treble. I then played it in for a while before a final setup. Now here’s the thing.
A friend of mine said he would like one of my guitars, I said I had one not spoken for and put the 000 in his lap. He played it for a while, well really, we jammed for forty-five minutes or more. He asked how much, and, I said mates’ rates. I did not tell him I was not happy with it.
I put it back in its case and did not get it out until the next day. When I played it I was amazed at the fantastic improvement in the sound. I played it to another customer who said WOW. Now I’m sorry I priced it so cheap. If only I had played it harder for longer.

cheers Taff

My warranty is comprehensive....but becomes immediately null and void if Stairway to Heaven or Smoke on The Water are played on any of my instruments
