First post telecaster pair

Hi.
Just found this site recently and is really helpful, have bin checking out lots of posts and lots of impressive work! I live on the northern side of Perth so its good to find lots of local info on timbers etc.. This is my second third and fourth build. The one with the black hardware i gave to my Dad for his 70th. The body's are camphor laurel and WA sheoak for the necks i milled a couple years ago from the bush behind my place (fallen from a fire).
I did a banksia cone inlay on the headstocks. They both play and sound really nice, really like the camphor laurel, they are quite light aswell. I built my first body from sheoak and it is very heavy, I've found it very nice for necks and fretboards but i dont have anything else to compare it to. In the process of building another strat style guitar at the moment.

Hi Seth, and welcome to the forum. Your pair of teles look great, and I bet your Dad was thrilled with that gift. It is really mice that you had locally sourced timber, and then photograph them in the same vicinity. What sort of finish did you put on those? It has highlighted the colours in the camphor really well.

Thanks Mark. I've used danish oil on the last 3 builds, easy to use and i really like the natural finish especially on the neck, feels alot nicer to play in my opinion. I always get abit nervous with the finish after all of the hours of woodworking and sanding.

Great looking guitars! I love the banksia cone inlays on the headstock. How were they to cut and sand etc? Hope to see many more from you.

Thanks martin. The banksia cone was a little bit fiddly but sands and finishes nice, just went really slow when using the router flush trim bit. They have such a nice grain pattern when you look at it closely.

Thanks Alan. Working on another one at the moment with the last bit of camphor laurel i have. Just had another bub so progress has slowed a bit, will post some pics when finished.
