As a practice for my first guitar I made a Ukelele; using 'Tassy Oak' that had previously been part of my vertical garden vege box wall. In pulling it apart I noticed the ripple pattern of the grain so sanded it down and found this beautiful grain.

I took the partially completed instrument to Adelaide to show the in-laws and did a photo shoot on the Aldinga Beach foreshore; it nearly ended in a disaster.

The neck is Tasmanian Myrtle, the bridge and fingerboard are Sheoak (I think) and banding is Blackwood.

I have a couple more photos to add but maybe the files are too big and they will not attach

Nice work on that uke. Current maximum allowable file size is around 30Meg...you shouldn't be having problems uploading. If files are less than 30Meg in size then it's more likely they are corrupt.

That is stunning figure in the timber. I am glad you managed to pull that out of the vege patch and make something nice out of it. Are you going to scrounge for the guitar timber as well? Start checking out the dunny door and so forth

Well I actually for my second guitar I used Western Red Cedar off cuts from a Skip Bin i was going past a few years ago; it was quarter sawn and was from window frames; 70 x 40mm and a 800mm long; i had to cut it into thin strips and glue them all together side by side. it worked out OK i think.

When I work out how to put photos up easily I will post some pics of it.

So I put the Uke on the stair rail to get the view and the Uke;

Then it blew off and fell down a few metres onto the rock and grass

So rushed down the stairs and up the embankment and found it unharmed! only one little dent

and so that became my logo for this site; exactly as it landed

Lucky it is almost light as a feather, but not so light as to blow away over Bass Straight! Obviously indicates a finely crafted instrument.
