V joint, anyone use it

I watched robbie burns tutorial video twice on making a V joint . When I finished , my woodworking instincts told me that this neck may fail if dropped on a hard floor with classical machine heads, , there is a lot of end grain to end grain glued together here. The only real strength comes from the tight dovetail joint. I/ve never tried this joint, but have gotten good results with my scarf joint necks, which I test by throwing them on the floor to see if the joint will hold or not. Anyone out there used a V joint succesfully?? Would like to try it once cheers ernie

I use it. Jose Romanillos has been using it for as long as he has been building. The joint is not only strong, it is designed for easy repair. It is designed to be glued with HHG, and if it is dropped, instead of breaking the neck, the joint will release, and in most cases can just be glued back together with little in the way of clean up. It is not new to Romanillos though, as it's been around for longer than that. Hauser used/uses the covered V, a different version of the joint, though when you add the top plate to the headstock, it strengthens the through V considerably. It has to fit well.

Waddy , How thick or thin is the HHG hide glue you use . I have some 192 g strength glue granules that i use in violin making. Or do you use a higher gram strength?? like 250? hide glue, joints have to be perfect. Do you also use hide glue for the headstock veneer or reg. titebond?. I will try to make one. thank you for the tip cheers ernie
