Hi guys, can anyone give me a little heads up on what to expect from a slab of burled Eucalypt, thinking of grabbing one for a tele body, it looks absolutely stunning in shop and a good price.

Does anybody have some info on this type of wood? Hardness/moisture content/anything? :D

Sorry, still trying to get ahold of an Australian tonal timber book as a guide, online search gave me nothing.Truth is ill prob grab it anyway, but it'd be good to know a little about it.

Thanks guy/girls

Tim

You won't find an Aussie timber tonal book. There isn't such an animal. So no point wasting your time. :D

I've never built a gum tree guitar so I can't help you there.

From memory (as dodgy as it is, and Kim will correct me if I am wrong) I think you can thank Sebastiaan for that one.

Greg Bennett aka Samick used/use what they call Ash which is, I believe and stand to be corrected, a eucalypt quite common in Australia and one of the fastest growing trees on the planet. Quite farmable. Their Eden Plains model is case in point. Think they called it Mountain Ash.

I came ready fitted with a pretty standard human type neck :(
The point here is that "Ash" seems to be used slightly more loosely than it was before Europe spread its wordage to the rest of us folk in the other world.
As there are how many varieties of 'mahagony', 'cedar', 'rosewood, 'pine' etc so are there so many varieties of 'ash'. There's a fair bit of semantic cross-dressing in here.

Jack Spira has used Mountain Ash for necks.

This is the final re-constructed message of this topic posted by the ANZLF help team.
