Baritone Uke Plan Wanted
Hi All
Am seeking, begging, on-the-scrounge for a set of build plans for a Baritone Ukulele; can anyone help out? I have one set of 2 x A3 sheets from Don Morris in the states but they're a bit light-on for detail. Have heard that a baritone uke's dimensions are the same as a half-sized guitar, but is this just mythology? If it is true, what sized/shaped guitar would you scale down?
Thanks

Micheal has built some baritones. I think he just scaled up dimensions from something smaller, but I'm sure he'll be along shortly.
I'm doing a tenor right now, and the plans I have are light on details as well. Some of the dimensions are just plain wrong, hence the warning to "check all measurement first" gets them off for sloppy drafting.
So just winging it on most of it.

Thanks Allen. Michael recently PM'd me with this:
I used the ratio of 17" tenor to 19" baritone and enlarged everything by that amount. So for mine it is bigger by a ratio of 1.117.
I'm just being impatient so not really wanting to draw up a scaled plan, but it'd be an interesting process to have a go at. Photocopier might be the go.
Cheers

I also had this happen on a tenor plan from LMI, they ended up very kindly refunding me when I pointed out some pretty gross errors.Allen wrote: ... hence the warning to "check all measurement first" gets them off for sloppy drafting.

Hi John,
I get my plans from Hana Lima 'Ia. Asa and Mike Chock that run this place are both great to deal with for everything ukulele.
http://www.hanalima.com/
I have used their various tenor plans with great success, and I'm sure their baritone plans would also be pretty good. Their old plans were pretty much mistake free, and they have re-released them, so I assume they have corrected the relatively minor few mistakes that they had.
They also sell a construction manual that fleshes out the process if you're interested, but the plans have all of the necesarry dimensions if you are experienced with the process.
Good luck,
Matt

I think the Hana Lima baritone has spanish heel joint & "kasha" bracing. LMI has one with dovetail and normal fan type bracing. There's others around too, but a scale-up from tenor should work out OK also.

Yep, spot on ... forum member Matt Blacka is producing some inspired ukes using Aussie woods based on this design; it's looking like a bit of a wait for Hana Lima to re-draft their original baritone plans.Hippety Hop wrote:I think the Hana Lima baritone has spanish heel joint & "kasha" bracing.
