I have to admit that the saw setup is not my own idea. I picked it up in the book Pearl Inlay by James E. Patterson.
When the time had come to make a bridge with a tie block it was just obvious to me to reach for this useful tool I had made to cut up abalone blanks and mother of pearl buttons. I have to say that it is not fast, but the upside with this setup is that the width between the cuts is very accurate and absolutely repeatable as (on my drill press) they are measured by 1/12 turns of an M10 nut. The piece of abalone, bone or whatever material gets stuck with a water soluble glue to a square junk of wood, and when done you soak it in water to release the cut up material.
