Information on John Day, Newcastle builder

Hello,

I am about to commence repairs on a beautiful dulcimer built in 1976 by John Day in Newcastle, and would like to do some research on the instrument and maker.
Does any know John and if he is still alive?
If so, can he be contacted?
If not, is anyone familiar with his techniques (particularly glue and lacquer types)
