Gotoh SGi510 mini tuners

Post by Paul Henneberry » Fri Apr 03, 2020 11:48 am

Hi,
I'm thinking of fitting some Gotoh SGi510 mini tuners with standard tuning posts to some dulcimers I'm working on. I need to know what range of headstock thickness they are designed for which is a dimension that isn't on the gotoh data sheet. I contacted some overseas suppliers but they don't know and gotoh themselves aren't replying to emails.
Have any of you folks fitted them? How have you found them and what headstock thickness did you fit them to? Are there any Aus stockist for these tuners?
cheers
Paul

Doesn't this tell you? https://g-gotoh.com/product/sgi510/?lang=en

If I read that right it is 22.5mm from the base to the centre of the string hole for the standard. From there you just decide how much of the post you want sticking out?

Hi Rod,
thanks for replying. I did find that drawing but wasn't sure exactly what the 22mm related to. Assuming the nut and washer is about the same thickness as the gotoh UPTL that I'm more familiar with (2.5mm) and that I want 6mm from the top of the nut to the centre of the string hole that would make the headstock thickness 13.7mm. Does that sound about right for a normal acoustic guitar?

regards
Paul

Hi,
I just got a reply from the gotoh factory and they said 13 -16mm. I'm still interested in finding out if anybody has used them and that they thought of them.
cheers

13 to 16 sounds more like a Uke than a guitar.

I haven't used gotoh tuners, but they are one of the standard choices of people in our (guitar making) school.

I have some regular sized 510s I just received for a new build and found out that they are meant for a slim headstock. Mine is around 14mm total thickness (I need to measure to be 100% sure) and with the supplied washer, All I can get is about 1.5 turns of the nut. Not sure how high the string hole is but I doubt it would be more then 5mm

I've used the 501 minis quite a lot and think they are quite nice and good value for money. My SS headstocks would be around 12mm thick.
