First Double Bass Build Completed
Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I posted anything about my double bass build, but I've been steadily working on it. I won't say it's finished because I reckon I'll be tweaking the set up for a while to come, but the build stage it complete. It's now in action at gigs and I'm pretty happy with the sound for a new instrument. It's even across all strings, has good volume acoustically, sounds great plugged into an amp or PA and sounds...like a bass! It's been getting a great reaction from people at gigs and jam sessions, and they've been asking if and when I'll ever build another one. I'm sure I will, but not for a while. Thank you to everyone here on ANZLF for your input and support throughout my first double bass build.
Michael

What an outstanding instrument. I'd love to hear more about the building process. It seems to be way more complex than most acoustic guitars.
Well done.
Well done.

Excellent! Any chance of some soundbytes? What pickup system did you use and what kind of strings have you fitted? Cheers! Ross

Also.... Did you 'spring' the bass bar? Ross

I tried to upload a short video, but it wouldn't load. Ross, I've fitted Helicore Hybrid srings and a fishman BP100 pickup with the piezo fitted in the wings of the bridge. I didn't spring the bass bar.

Unable to upload a sound clip either. Seems this is not possible for Apple Quicktime mov videos or m4a soundclips. How does one upload sound clips?

Most put the clips on youtube and then post a link. Wayne

Nice work on that "big guitar" Michael
Re videos....unfortunately the BBS software doesn't support direct uploading of videos as far as I know. Youtube is the easiest way to air a video clip.

Dropbox works and is free...you just upload your files then click on 'share' then up load a link for those interested to download. Here is a link to me playing a Jazz Manouche tune:https://www.dropbox.com/preview/Phoebe% ... e=personal
(I won't leave this link active for long)
ps:I probably wouldn't have got past the outboard motor and the rollocks on that build...ahh, but I have a double bass in my kitchen, for practice whilst cooking, as well as home recording
cheers, Ross

That's what I call commitment.
Beautiful work.
Carving a volute to that standard is not easy.
I also like the light color.
Superb.
