Year end puttering away

Post by Allen » Fri Dec 30, 2016 6:02 pm

It's the hot and steamy days in the tropics, but no monsoon yet to knock the edge off. Hopefully soon as it's pretty bloody dry in the catchment.

I'm just puttering in the workshop when the weather and my stamina align. No need to rush at things when it only makes the sweat drip off your brow even faster. All the commissions are completed and delivered in time for Christmas 2016.

For some reason I love the feeling of having totally cleaned slate at this time of year and getting to start afresh.

Not to say I don't have anything to do. The orders are stacking up and I decided to make a start on 6 tenors. Most I've built at one time previously has been 4 and it's a fair bit more work to prep and keep organised all the components when each instrument is customised with features, trim, hardware and timber. Must work on some sort of shelving compartments for this moving forward.

From top left to right they are Mahogany-Mahogany, Blackwood-Western Red Cedar, Ambrosia Maple-Ancient Spruce

From bottom left to right they are Granadilo-King Billy Pine, Mango-Carpathian Spruce, Blackwood-Sitka Spruce

Looks impressive having backs and tops hanging around together in a shop.
