Can you spot what is bugging me?

There is something about this fingerboard that is bothering me and i am wondering if any one else is able to spot it. Just want to check before I glue it down. No it's not the center line marks as they will be trimmed off.

The only possible "issue" might be at the nut end as Hank as mentioned.

Aha...I can see what's bugging you. Its the gaping big hole in the table cloth at top right. You're busy thinking up a BS story to tell your wife about how the hole got there.

Hi old_picker,

It's hard to tell because it's really difficult to get photos "square", but I'll have a guess:
- are all the dots offset to the bass side by a very small amount?

I was thinking the same thing as Trevor - maybe the two dots at the 12th not quite symmetrical. But it could be a trick of the parallax error in the photo. And even if it is true it is so subtle that when strings are on it I don't think you would see it.

We are probably going to freak you out more by making up new defects that don't even exist, when the one you are worried about is actually invisible to everyone but you.

thanks for looking at this for me - your comments are very much appreciated - the fret markers are oversize - 6.8mm

I made a fingerboard by hand with a radius beam - not a deep radius but it still took a lot of scrubbing with a radius beam to get the profile in even using 40 grit - I hate that job so much and swear i will make a jig next time round every time i do it - Unfortunately when it was finished and I ran the calipers over it I found the bass side at the top end of the board down around .5mm -

Just didn't have the time [elbow r00ted as well] to do another so I called a bloke i use for cnc'ing templates and luckily he had a radius and slotting program. I asked him to run on a new fingerboard for me. I sent a sample of the 5.8mm rod I use for the markers along with a beautiful [better than the first] curly maple blank. Unfortunately he set the dot inlays at 6.8mm instead of 5.8mm. When I opened the package the markers jumped out and grabbed me by the eyes and they won't let go.

Apart from that a very nice job with a touch up with 400 grit only required.
No offer forthcoming to do a second board which was a little disappointing.

Oh, I thought the fat markers were just your taste. But as you see we have found many other "mistakes", so you maybe better ditch this one too!

The dots look pretty standard size for a 80's style guitar.

As far as your other troubles - I always leave radiusing until after the board is on the neck. Sure I take some off before hand with the CNC, but I leave a tolerance to finish it by hand after it's glued to ensure that after lamination everything is where I want it to be.

I've never had a problem with it not being, but this is simply the way I was told when I was learning to build and it's what I've always done since as it makes sense. Even before I had CNC, I'd glue the square board blank onto the neck blank and radius after lamination. I'm doing the same with the acoustic builds now also.

This is the sort of thing that I obsess about...and in the end the only solution is to do it again. Call it anal but this sort of thing can drive me crazy.
