Looking for pickguard material in certain colours.

Hi fellas,

I'm looking at my first build and am wanting to have the tone and volume controls sitting on a recessed bit of plastic like the Moog guitar.



I assume this would just be the same type of material as what pickguards are made from. So I got to looking at some places that offer custom pickguards but the colour selections seems really limited.

I am looking for a solid colour deep burgandy and/or dark golden brown - anyone have any ideas?

Sorry i dont have any ideas for plastic, but have you thought about making a timber one?
You could dye it it you are after a specific colour/tone.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of timber, but I think I'm pretty set on the plastic route, I really like the smoothness and lack of texture and it fits in a bit better with the overall aesthetic I am aiming for.

I have used acrylic (tradename-perspex) sheet before, some of the stuff they have for shopfitting/sign-writing use has more of a range. I once made a pickguard out of Day-glo green (as per customers instructions) acrylic and some control cavity covers out of tinted brown & one in a smokey grey. Being 1/8th" (3.2mm) thick, it's a smidge thicker than 5 ply pickguard material but you could always machine/route a little out of the back if it stuffs up mounting switches e.t.c.
One possibility to look at if you get really stuck.
