A bit of fun

Post by 56nortondomy » Sat Aug 30, 2014 7:36 pm

I was asked to make a pick guard for an archtop. The customer wanted rosewood of some type and then he wanted it art deco as well. So i made it out of Cocobolo for the main part and 5 different timbers for the rest. African b/w, Padauk, Macassar ebony, b/eye maple and Tas b/w. He also wanted plastic trim, it was the first time i've used it, didn't like it all that much.

Like it a lot. The plastic trim actually looks good in this context, I think

Thanks everyone. I haven't seen the archtop Tod, but i think he's trying to spruce it up a bit and give it an old style look. This was a nice little project to do, something different.

The skull guitar was originally built by C.C. devilled guitar tech for C.C. And they put a bolt on B.C. Rich neck on it!

My latest bit of fun. Not art deco but more conceptual art. With the title "Thorns" (beyond the window).

The body was mahogany, so maybe a kilo and a bit, I have paulonia as well, so if weight was an issue, then it could have been done in that, which is probably about 300-400grams of weight

A bloke I know recently built this lefty replica of the same guitar using a BC Rich neck. He changed the logo so it says B.C.C. rich, paying homage to C.C.

Cheers guys. Allen the thought behind it other than the theme itself is a twist on a painters quadtych (or polyptych) and also inspired by Salon style art exhibitions. I also filled the engraving with black CA rather than ink so it ended up level.

the end result is excellent Jim, but I have not come across black CA before!! Is this something you create yourself or source "pre-blacked"?
