Resin marks.

Post by Parlourman » Tue May 21, 2013 9:07 pm

Hello everyone.

I have, at last, cleared some time (and my shed) and been able to continue a build that i started about a year ago.

The soundboard is King Billy. It has been sitting in between two MDF boards under a pile of bricks for about a year after my last false start.

When I went to get it today the face side was stuck to the MDF by resin pockets that had developed. It came off ok - but has left resin marks (as pictured) I have a sharp scraper, which removes the dry resin, but leaves a "shadow/imprint" where the resin blotch was.

I have tried wiping the surface with meths before scraping, doesn't seem to make any difference.

The marks will come out with heavy scraping, but i'm having to remove more than I am comfortable with........

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers

Steve

Inside half of a double top??

What's the other side like? Possible to put the marked side on the inside?

Nothing unusual for King Billy. Just sand it off and put some finish on it.

As Bob said. If you don't want this to happen you need to be careful about how you store your King Billy. If stored flat up against another surface, resin patches are an almost certainty. Store it with the important bits exposed to the air and it most likely won't happen.
