New Weissenborn
Well, thanks to Bob C. for help with side profile plans- finally completed my first Weissenborn. This is my 55th instrument but the first with no neck!
Guess I'll have to learn to actually play it. I live in Port Townsend, WA where Chris Knutsen designed the predecessor to this guitar in 1895. Seemed only fitting to build a new one in his old home town. A second set of top/back/sides is already cut ready for Weissenborn #2. Finish is Liberon oil. 4 coats, buffed between coats with 0000 wire wool.

Nice work. I'm glad the side profiles worked out for you.
Very tasty rosette too. Not to much bling and it sort of escapes the eye unless you look for it.

Thanks Bob,
I debated long and hard re. the finish. Settled on oil and I'm pleased with the result.
Nick- the top/back/sides are Koa.

Sorry about that The photo's have a slight yellowish cast on them (well through my monitor they do) so that's what threw me. Nice work by the way & like Bob, I like the subtlety of the rosette .jayluthier wrote:Nick- the top/back/sides are Koa.

Beautiful instrument! I would love to use some Koa like that but it is very expensive here. I build a ukulele from Koa and it was nice to work with. Very hard!
Any sound samples in the future?
Cheers

Thanks Mike,
The fret lines are maple. I'm spoiled, one of the best hardwood suppliers in the northwestern U.S. is about a mile down the road from my house so I often get first 'picking' rights!
