Does anybody else find life getting just a little hectic at times, and the things that you really want to do get put to the sideâ€¦??? I'm sure I'm not alone here.
Well, I managed to keep a couple of days free for guitar building this week and have managed to get the back glued - it's drying as I write and I pray that tomorrow when I take the big rubber band off , a la Cumpiano method, that all will be well!
Took a couple of pics before gluing. Back and sides sapele and top Italian spruce.

Graham she is looking GREAT!!!!

I really like the tight cut-away and the combo of euro and sapele should make an outstanding sounding instrument.

Your workmanship looks excellent too as does the bracing.

Mmmmmmm Sapele and Euro . A great Combo . That's some fine looking work there Graham .

What binding / purfling scheme do you have planned ? Please keep us posted on further progress. Man, your've done well with that cutaway. Did you have any problems bending the Sapele on that tight bend ? If it were me , it would probably have snapped

. Why can't guitars be square ?

Thanks for your kind comments. Craig - Yes, the bend is not an easy one, and to be honest the forst attempt was a disaster but I had a spare side - the next slice of sapele that matches perfectly. I think next time I'll soften the bend a bit and play safe!

I have ordered purfling lines from Karl Zeeh in Germany. The client liked my stage guitar - see pic - that I've been playing for 9 years now and wanted the same purfling. I'd run out completely and have ordered more. I expect it will arrive any day now. Karl Zeeh makes, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful purflings on the planet.

Sorry for the delay in relying - I've been performing at the Martinborough Wine and Food festival where I DID DRINK WINE!

Hi Graham,

Id planned to get to the Martinborough festival but Im still stuck out i nthe Taranaki Bight doing the rig thing. My next job has slipped back to January so it looks like Ill probably get down to Chrictshurch for a few days if Im lucky. Will give you a shout closer to the date I leave the rig.

Karl Zeeh is a small family business that have been making purflings and other marquetry products, apparently for some generations. I don't know much about themâ€¦ They don't have a website and only seem to do small runs of their designs, so they are not cheap and things can take a while. I get the feeling they're not into big marketing exercises, but do quite nicely staying a small family concern.

I faxed them and they posted me a couple of colour copied pages of their designs to choose from - some very nice stuff. A friend and mentor of mine lived in Germany for some years, building guitars, and he bought some of Karl Zeeh's purflings back to NZ with him. It's hard to get excited about StewMac's selecton after using these.

Old world company, maybe, but ain't that kinda nice!

I had a bending disaster once too. I just stood there like a stunned mullet for quite some time

I'll be interested to see what other purflings Karl Zeeh have .

What's the New Zealand wine like ?
