Get Well Soon Steve Roberts

Steve Roberts was using a circular saw, and as he put it himself , he did something that he has been telling apprentices not do for 40 years. and managed to remove his right thumb. Steve spent 3 day...

Callistemon
I am always looking for Australian native timbers that could be used in luthiery, so when I recently cut back a largish Calistemon Viminalis (weeping Bottlebrush) I started wondering if I should throw it in the fire or in the shed. It's not big enough for back and side sets but I was thinking possib...

Re: Rimu, Flamed Maple, Ziricote, Tiger Myrtle and Mahogany
Nice use of Rimu there Allan and a nicely figured neck, nice job :D :D :cl :cl Do you use the Bareknuckles almost exclusively now or were they customer's choice? . Bareknuckles, I wouldn't say exclusively, but I'm yet to find something better. You Don't Like Mick Brierly's Pick ups Allan ?

Re: Reliable Hygrometer Calibration for the Luthier
Yeah sure john , I realise that, but, I remember when we spoke about this ages ago I went off searching for a supplier and was unable to find anyone that could or would supply Potassium Carbonate in quantities small enough for calibrating a hygrometer. I remember a company that would supply a 25kg b...

It Shouldn't be hard to obtain the salts...Only Some Salts.
as one that can be used is Sodium Chloride (ordinary salt) available at the supermarket, the only difference is you are looking for 75%

Re: Reliable Hygrometer Calibration for the Luthier
Thanks John, I remember a discussion with you , regarding placing buckets/bowls of Potassium Carbonate in the work shops controlled humidity area, to assist with keeping the humidity at 43% ,what are your thoughts on this now ? do think it would be worth the trouble and expense for an area larger th...
