Re: Greg Smallman guitar
Smallman guitars are amazing instruments. I own a 2001 with the adjustable neck feature. My Smallman is so easy to play. Very little effort is needed to create music on it. The dynamic palette is very broad. The volume is nice, but that isn't the main reason for the design IMO. It is the ease of pla...

Re: My Latest Lattice Guitar
No need for it. The retaining bolt is only there for when you take the strings off or loosen them so the neck does not fall off the body. The hole in the frame is oval shaped so the bolt can pivot along with the neck. It doesn't tighten down on the frame, in fact the bolt floats and only touches the...

Re: My Latest Lattice Guitar
The internal frame is made of baltic birch or apple 3/4" multi-ply not the cheap hardware store softwood ply. The weight is about 2 x that of a standard classical guitar. The neck design is not mine, but based on Greg Smallman's design. The heel floats and hinges on a pivot. This video explains it: ...

Re: My Latest Lattice Guitar
Hi Jeremy, I'm attaching it with Cyanoacrylate(sp?) aka "super glue". There is a 5mm surface under the arm rest. Using a pipette I put the c.a. glue on the arm rest, then flip it over and onto the guitar. Do this slowly and accurately! Once you commit to the position, that is were it goes. Once it i...

Re: My Latest Lattice Guitar
Thanks for the nice comments guys. I think this one was my best one so far. I made the back and sides a little heavier this time.

Re: Smallman Carbon Fiber Fingerboards
Still a side project for me. Although a machinist friend of mine is very interested and is making some molds for me. Greg's lattice guitars have had a lot of influence on classical guitar construction, but his fingerboards haven't caught on yet. Maybe most players don't even know they are carbon fib...

Smallman Carbon Fiber Fingerboards
Just curious if any of you Aussie luthiers make carbon fiber/epoxy fingerboards like the ones made by Greg Smallman and sons for the past 10 years or so? I don't hear much talk about them here in the USA, so I wondered if maybe it was something catching on down under.

Hauser Soundboard Clamps
Hauser soundboard clamps are now available! These are made for Hauser Guitars and must meet Hermann Hauser's approval before being shipped! For nostalgias sake, these are the same style clamps Hauser Sr. used to make the famous 1937 guitar for Segovia! Below is a video of them. http://www.youtube.co...

Re: Lattice guitar comparison
For the video I used a Creative Vado HD video camera. No external mics, editing, processing, etc... The close up is so the internal mic can pick up the sound easier. The sound on the second video is much better than the first. Both have a good full bass sound. I don't think the internal mic of my Va...
