I just did that on my latest, luckily I had the off-cut from that end and turned it into a cutaway. I have tried glueing them back before but while it worked the repair was very obvious when looking closely.

I am trying to keep the backs and sides rigid, I guess the idea is that the back reflects rather than vibrating in sympathy. The couple I have done like that have ended up louder but that might just be that I am getting better at voicing the tops.

I think milling to dimension does not exclude something from being hand made. So long as the shape and form of those things has been done by hand. I think the main difference is the level of automation. If every part is taken to final dimension with jigs, fixtures or machine it is no longer hand mad...
