Hi Allen,
These ukes are looking great, and you're really churning them out now.
It would be great to hear a comparison of the sound from each.
Keep up the good work! I'm sure you will get heaps of attention at the festival with some of these on display.

Re: Bracing Question (Yes that old chestnut!)
I can't help with the main question here, but I find the swiss cheese bracing interesting. Definately one way to reduce mass. Remembering back to my structural engineering courses, I think there is some rule about the maximum size of holes that can be put through structural members (such as beams), ...

Re: J.F. Custom "Von Trott" model Bouzouki
Wow, I think that's probably one of the nicest looking instruments I've seen Jeremy.
I love your style when it comes to the details like the purflings, binding, rosette etc. Simple but complex all at the same time.

Very nice demonstration Pete. It makes light work of a somewhat tedious job, and the end result is fantastic.

Re: More Ukes
Unfortunately I don't think either of these will be able to head north for the festival. The blackwood uke already resides on the Gold Coast with a happy customer, and I've had a few people ask about the tiger uke over the last week or so. After seeing everyone else getting their ukes ready, I was a...

Re: More Ukes
Thanks for looking. Liam: The design is based loosely on the plans that Hana Lima Ia sell. The plans are for a fairly basic uke though, and are intended at first time builders. I have started to bring some more complexities into the design (radiused fretboard, domed soundboard, binding, carbon neck ...

Re: Banksia Uke - Something Different
Hi Allen, I haven't been checking the forum much lately, so have only just seen this uke. I love the banksia, and am glad you're getting some good use out of that logo. I had thought about modifying the various uke bracing techniques to something like what you have done here. Do you think increasing...

I bound my first uke in purple heart, and it looked great. When I look back on photos of the uke that were taken when it was freshly finished, it has definately changed a lot in colour over the last couple of years. It is certainly darker and less.....purple? Still looks good though, and is still va...

Great job Allen. Sure is a nice uke you put together there, and I'm glad you got that logo inlayed. I always like seing ukes put together using timber that is just laying around, so I'm looking forward to seeing your next one too. Seems to fit well with the whole uke concept. How do you find the ton...

The Kasha bracing pretty much isolates the upper bout treble side from much vibration and sound production due to the treble confinement bars. This makes the upper bout a really good spot to put some soundholes through, as you're not wasting any active soundboard area. The same can't be said for the...

Hi,
They sell a 33 ft dish at guitar woods (Gerard Gilet) in Botany, Sydney.

Not sure if they sell other radius, but could be worth giving them a call.

Hi John, I get my plans from Hana Lima 'Ia. Asa and Mike Chock that run this place are both great to deal with for everything ukulele. http://www.hanalima.com/ I have used their various tenor plans with great success, and I'm sure their baritone plans would also be pretty good. Their old plans were ...

I've used both the clothes pegs and the metal bulldog clips for gluing the linings onto my ukes, and both were ok. Not so great around the waist, and didn't work so well for some liner profiles where the slant on the liner face was a little more angled (triangle type liner profile). Next time around...

Hi Tim, I haven't gone down as small as a concert or soprano uke, but for the tenors I have made, I have aimed for a spruce top that starts about 2 - 2.2 mm thick and is thinned out to about 1.8 mm around the outside 40 mm of the soundboard. For hardwood tenor tops it is more like 1.6 - 1.8 mm, agai...

Tenor Kasha Ukulele
Hi everyone, I've hung around the shadows of this forum for a while now, and with the completion of a new uke a little while ago, thought it was a good time to make my first post. I've attached some pictures below of the newly completed tenor uke with a modified Kasha soundboard bracing system. The ...
