Re: grain thru binding

I was just about to post saying I could imagine no other way to do it accurately than ripping binding strips from the pre-bent, pre-profiled sides when I noticed Allen's post, which I've just been thinking about. Allen, if you I could ask: how did you manage to cut the strips to conform to the longi...

Re: Calculating Soundboard Flexural Rigidity

Many thanks indeed Trevor. I don't know why I didn't see that all the separate components involved just go into Eqn 4.4-2... Before, I was figuring out the values for each brace, including the section of soundboard underneath and then wondering how to put it all together. Anyway, thanks again. My sp...

Re: Calculating Soundboard Flexural Rigidity

Thanks a lot for going through that Trevor, that's very clear. I've calculated the correct value for the worked example on p.4-38 but forgive me if I am a bit slow: while I can see how you calculate the value for an individual brace, I can't see how an overall value for the stiffness across the soun...

Calculating Soundboard Flexural Rigidity

I have been scratching my head over how to calculate the flexural rigidity across the soundboard span and wondered if anyone could help set this straight for me? I can see clearly how to get the second moment of area I and Flexural Rigidity EI through one brace-soundboard section. But I can't see ho...

Re: Getting the most from these books

I was in a similar situation to you when I first got the books. While it's possible to get by passing over most of the maths and reading the chapter summaries, I felt there was a lot of stuff in there that I would like to understand. You may well be able to pick enough up from here to apply the idea...

Re: 4 DOF Model

Actually, scrub those last values (I'd changed the parameters slightly). Using the parameters from the book (p. 2-37) I get:

Dbar at 99.8Hz:

Step-by-step evaluation:

17109250024919600-14664066332842700i

Evaluation as per Eq AII 2-44:

Re: 4 DOF Model

Hi all, Just joined this forum (even if it is based on the other side of the planet), although I have been lurking here for some time. I bought "The books" a while back and have spent the past year or so getting to grips with maths in the hope of understanding the Design Book. When I first opened th...
