Re: Ukelele bridge support
Pat,
Because you have fan bracing in place my belief is the soundboard will remain mechanically stable. If they were my ukes I would not be concerned...theoretically!
Cheers

Re: Windows 10
Thanks Peter, I have turned the services off even though I went through the pain via another route and it's shutting the gate after the horse has bolted. Still recovering programs as I need to use them. Went to do something yesterday and found most of the fonts I had downloaded over the last couple ...

Re: Windows 10
Sadly I went down the same path. I wish I had read this post but I was a day too late. I finally got it to work after it deleted all my programs (I wish they didn't use Mac terminology and now call programs Apps) Thankfully Win 10 keeps a list of all the programs it deletes and writes a PDF doc list...

Re: Dimensions for concert sized pineapple ukulele
Hana Lima are good plans and if you purchase a construction manual along with the plans, the postage cost wont be that prohibitive. The manual is one of the best I have seen for ukulele building and moderately priced.

Hi Allan,
THANKS for posting your observations and pic. I tried some on a piece of blackwood and came to a similar conclusion.

Having read about the process some time ago. The torrified wood wont take on moisture which is a plus.

Re: Wipe-on finish for acoustic guitar
Allan & all, Here is the response from Neil at Ubeaut re suitability. Hello Daryl - No reason why it couldn't be used on a ukulele. I believe there are a couple of luthiers using it on the necks of their guitars. It was as mentioned in the info designed for small items but people seem to be using it...

Re: Wipe-on finish for acoustic guitar
PS Re Aussie Oil,
I shot Ubeaut and Email to see if the product was suitable for musical instruments and how hard the finish is.
Will post their response.

I like the fact that you can add frequent coats of Aussie Oil without waiting hours between coats.....might give it a try on the next uke.

Re: Wipe-on finish for acoustic guitar
Jeremy, Yes I gave them a coat of thinned (20% turps) Feast Watson Sander Sealer. I usually stop at eight coats of Tru Oil but I have a Uke that I'm now up to 11 coats and can confirm what others have said. It just gets better the more coats you apply. My method of applying Tru Oil is to apply it sp...

I have a Delonghi second hand off Ebay. I then made a digital humidity contoller based on one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/281640674326?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107&chn=ps Set the controller to desired % and it switches the dehumidifier off/on as required. Re: Source for Tru Oil in the Canberra region?
kpcart,
No Tru Oil is not really an oil as such. It is a polymer finish and cures. It is similar to apply than a wipe on poly but I think easier to use. I just finished a uke yesterday with Tru Oil...see pic.

Re: Source for Tru Oil in the Canberra region?
Aaron, Unfortunately the Tru Oil falls in to the same category as tuners, fretwire, tonewood, fretboards etc etc. All items not available from the local hardware store. It is a matter of juggling the most cost efficient way of having items posted. Birchwood Casey, the makers of Tru Oil, have an onli...

Re: Wood ID?
I have recently used Mountain Ash from two different suppliers and it is quite a lot light lighter in colour and without the colour variation shown in your pics. I've also been resawing quite a bit of local blackwood that looks very similar to your pics. I'm only a novice but my guess would be black...

Re: SIX STRING UKULELE HELP
Yeah good call Nick. I didnt even give it a thought until a musician friend who had played my previous uke builds advised me to watch my machine head placement for the six string. As I had already shaped the headstock and drilled the holes, I had to remove the laminate, plug the holes, add material ...

SIX STRING UKULELE HELP
Hi Group, I am building a six string uke for a guy and not having seen one, let alone played one, I'm not sure what spacing i should set the two pair of octave strings at the nut and saddle. I have already stuffed up once by placing the tuner holes in a slight fan formation on the headstock.....WRON...
